The grassy hill that leads up and away from the northern coast of the Sea of Galilee is the traditional location of where Jesus delivered his famous Sermon on the Mount. Traditionally, it is called the Mount of Beatitudes. Just a mile or two Northwest of Capernaum, the traditional location is located in an area that would have been popular with the religious Jews of that day (as opposed to the Herodians in Tiberias or the Zealots in Gamla or the Pagans in the Decapolis). Atop the hill is a beautiful Catholic church and garden commemorating the sermon. From the hill the entire Sea of Galilee can be seen.
